Bee project Scarborough – help required
I have spoken to Fiona re her wildlife project and she has sent a brief resume of what it is about. Can anyone interested or who could help please contact her – details are at bottom of brief. Thanks
I am making a short film that responds to our current and historical understanding and study of garden species, with special interest in the diverse lifeworlds of bees and other pollinators in Scarborough. It will discuss the existential threats to insects in the context of the human experience of Coronavirus. The visuals will bring together film of bees and pollinators in my own garden and local patch down in Kent, with archival footage of Scarborough’s South Cliff Gardens, plus where possible, photos and audio recordings from Scarborough naturalists with an interest in bees. The project is commissioned by Invisible Dust and Scarborough Cliff Gardens.
I would be very interested in learning more about your study of bees and other pollinators in Scarborough – including how biodiversity has changed, the threats that you have seen emerge, and also the changes in the way naturalists study insects (and their plant relations) – from the Victorian passion for collecting and preserving specimens, dissection and description, to current methods perhaps using more photography and video, macro lenses, identification apps on smartphones, DNA etc?
Best wishes
Fiona
