A chance to see a good range of local orchids. We will be out all day at various sites to see how many species we can find in a day, repeating a day that John Hume did a few years ago. Looking for double figures at least if we can.
Meet: Friends Meeting House car park
Time: 10:00 (full-day)
Leader: John Hume
We will be visiting various sites (travelling by car) in the Scarborough area to see some of our local orchids. Please bring a packed lunch with plenty to drink if the weather is hot. Also wear suitable outdoor clothing and suntan lotion again if the weather is hot. This will be an all day event but you can choose just to come along for part of the day. In case of bad weather a notice will be posted on the web site. Please also check our facebook page.
Car sharing will be a good idea to make things easier getting from site to site so watch this space for details of timing for departure.
NOTE DUE TO BAD WEATHER FORECAST THIS HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL THURSDAY 27TH JUNE
A chance to venture out and have an illuminating experience!
Meet: Hackness Village hall car park
Time: 20:45 – 23:00
Leader: John Hume
We will meet at Hackness and from there you can either car-share or drive in convoy to Bickley.
Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and a torch may be useful as sunset will be at 21:40.
In case of bad weather, please check our website and our facebook page.
A chance to see some of these strange birds and other birds and animals of the twilight period. Meet at Reasty Bank car park (Grid ref SE965944) at 9.15. Contact Nick Gibbons on 07790 113025 if the weather looks unsuitable.
We have now found that July 16th clashes with an FC meeting which will take priority for most of the committee so we will leave this event for this year and try again in 2020.
We are going to check the bat activity that we found around the centre of the village and also do some recording in Revenge Wood as the card in the bat detector there failed on our first survey. Please contact Nick Gibbons on 07790 113025 if you can help.
As most of you will know the Society has been doing a repeat of Peter Robinson’s 1993 botanical survey of Deepdale. Apart from the botanical survey we have also been gathering records of as many other groups as possible and will also have a bat survey there on 9th August. To ‘celebrate’ FC are having an open day on the site and all members are invited. Hopefully we should also be able to generate some more records for the site on the day so bring your field guides etc! Exact timings, access etc will be posted when finalised.
This is now confirmed. Meet at Brompton Village hall at 8.15. There will be a bat talk prior to the survey and villagers are being invited to participate. Contact Nick Gibbons for further details (firstname.lastname@example.org).
This will be point survey to back up the repeat of the 1993 botanical survey of this site by Peter Robinson that we are repeating this year. Meet at Bickley Gate car park (SE911911) at 20.00. Contact Nick Gibbons for further details (email@example.com).
This date has now been confirmed. Meet at the entrance (SE948953) at 19.45. Contact Nick Gibbons for further details (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Please note that due to Cath going in for a back operation the beaver visit will be rearranged for a future date. We will still carry out a bat survey to see if we can identify what all the Natterer’s we find in the boxes are doing. Meet at the site at 7.00pm (GR SE774908) . Contact Nick Gibbons (email@example.com).
