AIMS OF THE SOCIETY

Scarborough Field Naturalists was formed in 1889 as a group of people whose principal interests are to record the wildlife of the Scarborough District, and to educate by means of an annual programme of indoor lectures and outdoor meetings.

Records collected are used for local environmental and conservation purposes, and are ultimately passed to The Yorkshire Naturalist’s Union to compliment a county-wide database. Non-members are welcome to contribute their records via e-mail.

A series of indoor evening meetings is held, usually on the second (or forth) Tuesday of the month, when visiting lecturers give presentations about a wide variety of wildlife and environmental topics. Meetings are currently held at The Qdos Suite, Scarborough Rugby Club, Scalby Road, Scarborough.

Outdoor meetings and excursions are held throughout the year and will be announced on the annual programme. Additional outdoor meetings are arranged during the year and these are announced either via the newsletter or e-mail.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in wildlife wishing to contribute or to learn more about the local natural history. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
