Anyone is encouraged to submit sightings, preferably with photos as long as it is within the reporting area. There are free apps which can be used to suggest an identification, such as iNaturalist, Obsidentify and Merlin Bird ID but their accuracy is variable and so needs to be verified. The sightings don’t have to be of anything rare, since it is important to keep an eye on how everything is doing in these days of global warming.

Recorders are local volunteers who verify and maintain records submitted to the society, submitting them to regional and national databases as well as organising local field trips in the summer months and talks in the winter months.
