The open meeting for the 9th of Sept at the University is CANCELLED. Instead we are having a joint trip with Scarborough Birders on the Regal Lady for a 2 hour cruise north sea watching. There will be a quiz “Scarborough Bird Brain 2014 “ which will take place in the bar on the voyage back.
Time & Date: 6:15pm Tuesday, 9th September – the boat sails at 6:30pm from Lighthouse pier
Meeting Place: Lighthouse Pier (middle pier) Scarborough
Parking: Car parking on the Marine Drive is FREE from 6:00pm
Cost: £5 per person – FREE to members of the Bird Club

Our Winter programme starts on Tuesday, 23rd September with a talk by Chris Wilson on “Coastal Flowers “ at 7:30pm at the University. We will have a limited number of signed copies of Nan Sykes’ book “Wildflowers of the North Yorkshire Coast” for sale at a reduced price of £2.50 (rrp £4.95) available for purchase on the night.

Presented by Dr Jane Pottas, Whitby Naturalists.
The talk by Dr. Pottas will cover Seaweeds, an often overlooked group which are an important component of rocky shore ecosystems as habitat formers and service providers. There are about 10,000 species to be found around our costs and potentially 100 species on a single shore. The north east of England seaweed flora has generally been considered less diverse than elsewhere in Britain but this is probably because these shores have been less documented. Come along and find out more about the fascinating world of seaweed.
Dr. Pottas lives in Whitby and is a former University Lecturer and most recently has worked as a Research Assistant at the Natural History Museum in London on projects to capture data from the seaweed herbarium there and at regional and local museums on the distribution of non-native, rare and data deficient species in the UK.
The meeting is open to members past and present, friends and those with an interest in natural history who wish to learn more about Scarborough Field Naturalists.
If you are a member of the Society or a student at the University, all the Lecture meetings are free, but guests are welcome to come and see what it’s all about for the price of £2.

The first of this year's indoor meetings, "A Review of 2014" will be will be held in room WO27 at Hull University, Scarborough Campus at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 13th January.
This Open Meeting will be a review of 2014 so bring along your records and photographs of 2014 natural history highlights in the Scarborough area, to share with others.
