Stuart Baines will lead a cetacean walk for members of the society on the Marine Drive to take place Sunday 20th July, meeting place to be the new Sea Watching Centre. Start time 10.00 to 12 noon. Weather permitting.
Brian Walker is going to show us in detail what is so special about this site after his talk at the Rugby Club. Meet at 10.30am at the Bickley School House forest entrance (SE910928). We will travel in convoy from there to the site. Packed lunch and walking boots/stout footwear, wellies preferably. It will be uneven ground for walking. This is a jont meeting with Whitby Nats. We will sit and see what bat activity there is around the windy pit regarding swarming and what activity there is at the new entrance. It can be a long night so bring some suitable clothing, chair and some food/drink. We will be within the FC locked gates so access will have to be as a group going in and out unless you have your own pass key. We will try and car share to make things easier on the forest roads. We will be supporting the Whitby Nats on a point survey at Egton Bridge. We will meet at Egton Bridge in the parking area between St Hedda’s church and the railway line (NZ80440535) at 6.40 where spots will be allocated and any questions re use of the detectors sorted out.
