SCARBOROUGH FIELD NATURALISTS.
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON: 27th January 2015 at 7-30pm.
VENUE: University of Hull Scarborough Campus.
ATTENDANCE: 24 Members.
CHAIRMAN: Robin Hopper.
APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE: Mick Carroll (Past President).
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Not Shown.
MATTERS ARISING: N/A.
CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED: None.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Subscriptions were due and the treasurer would collect monies in the interval. Could new members please fill out membership forms and provide an email address if possible in case events were cancelled.
RECORDS AND REPORTS:
Brian Walker showed a photograph of black grouse seen at Newbiggin in Teesdale and a short video of High Force waterfall in flood. He also reported that a little egret had been seen several times in the last week at Thornton le Dale sewage treatment works.
Denise Warley had seen around 50 red kites at the Nunburnholme roost site on the 17th January..
Robin Hopper said that the rough-legged buzzard seen at Grindale was reported to be still about.
Janice Morrit thought she had seen a rough-legged buzzard at Warter.
Melanie Earle reported on the rapid growth of Sphagnum in the tractor ruts on worksites in Wykeham Forest. There also appeared to be an abundance of voles at present.
Robin Hopper Had been to France and in a 23 minute period had seen wallcreeper, accentor, lammergeier, griffon vulture and alpine chough.
SPEAKER FOR THE EVENING: Dr Paul Morrison, RSPB.
TITLE/SUBJECT OF TALK: Managing Cocquet Island Nature Sanctuary.
MAIN CONTENT OF TALK: Dr. Morrison gave an excellent talk describe the history of Cocquet Island, the wildlife found there including common, arctic, Sandwich and roseate terns, its management and the problems encountered.
The President Mr Hopper gave the vote of thanks.
The meeting closed at 9-20pm.
