MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON: 10th January 2017
VENUE: Education Centre, St Catherine's Hospice, Scarborough. ATTENDANCE: 24 Members & guests.
CHAIRMAN: The President, Brian Walker was in the Chair.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING(s): Minutes from 6th December 2016 were avialble as hard copy and agreed as correct.
MATTERS ARISING:
CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED: YNU monthly newsletter had arrived and was available in hard copy or can be forwarded by e-mail to any members that request it. YNU spring conference was now bookable via the link on their website. Date is 8th April.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: The second Mick Carrol memorial lecture will take place on 23rd Feb. Tickets are selling fast.
RECORDS AND REPORTS:
Colin Keighley had seen Hen Harrier at Glaisdale Head
Nan Sykes had seen the first Snowdrop on 9/1/2017
Nick Gibbons had reported White Fronted Geese on Seamer Carrs as well as 2 Green Sandpiper in the ditches there.
Robin Hopper reported 6 Mediterranean Gulls and 2 Bullfinch at Holbeck, 3 Waxwing on Stepnet Road, 2 Black Redstart on the sea defences near Albert Cafe, 2 Great Northern Diver, 2 Long Tailed Duck, 2 Velvet Scoter, 6 Common Scoter and 2 Black Necked Grebes were in the harbour or in south bay.
Brian Walker reported seeing Porpoises off Marine Drive.
SPEAKER FOR THE EVENING:
Nick Gibbons gave a brief talk on work being done on Bats in our area and asked for any volunteers to help. The talk included work around bat boxes, monitoring and house visits.
Brian Walker gave a brief talk on the 'History and heritage of the local forests'. This covered all historic sites from bronze age burial mounds to WW2 buildings.
The date of the next meeting is 24th January. The speaker is Karen Saunders on 'The Yorkshire Derwent'
