MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON: Tuesday 21st March 2017 |
VENUE: St Catherine’s Hospice Education Centre ATTENDANCE: 25 Members & guests.
CHAIRMAN: Brian Walker was in the Chair. APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE: Pauline Popely. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING(s): Minutes from 21st Feb 2017 were distributed. MATTERS ARISING: None.
CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED: YNU newsletter had arrived and was available in hard copy. Any members who wished to have the e-mail forwarded are to let the secretary Rob Stark know.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: The dates of the outdoor meetings are now on the website. The fund raising event in memory of Mick Carrol had raised £2600 The proposed coach trip to Saltholme was announced and members asked if they would like to commit to coming. The date is Saturday 16th September and will be subsidised by the legacy from Gwenda Wadsworth. Cost £10 adults and £5 children.
Coffee and tea at indoor meetings has stopped as we had poor take up but please feed back to us if you miss having this.

RECORDS AND REPORTS: for period 25th Jan to 21st Feb
Janice Morrit noted 70 Pink feet heading north on the 12th and Chiffchaff singing in Langdale on the 19th March Jenny O’Connor reported a White tailed eagle flying down Troutsdale on 15th March. This bird was seen later over north Hull Frank Sheader reported 2 Grey Partridge at High Fordon Philip Winter reported Brimstone on the wing on 13th March, a bat species on the wing on 14th March and stoat on 15th March. Len Auckland had seen Brimstone and Peacock butterfly in his garden last week Steve Buschell reported a live Hedgehog at Darncombe, 2 Fallow Deer at Givendale 5th March, Brimstone and Goshawk at Broad Head 7th March plus Lapwing on territory. Yellowhammer 19th March Melanie Earle reported a large flock of 100+ Fieldfare in Langdale A large flock of Brambling were reported in a field in Wykeham forest Nick Gibbons had had Hedgehog in the garden on and off for the last 3 weeks. John Hume reported that someone was helping with a toad patrol at Throxenby Mere. |
SPEAKER FOR THE EVENING:
Ann Hanson spoke about research into the habitat preferences and distribution of Harvest Mice in the Leeds area. The mice were now very rare in arable and survived mainly in wet grassland and fen. The life cycle was discussed and two nests were handed around for people to see.
The date of the next meeting is 25th April 2017. The speaker is Cath Bashforth or deputy and she is talking on ‘Forestry Commission’.
